In the United States, Zeltiq CoolSculpting has long been the ‘coolest’ innovation in modern aesthetic practice.
It is a highly effective alternative to surgical liposuction, producing very similar results if performed correctly. So what factors should you keep in mind to ensure you’re getting the real deal?

Real versus fake
In the U.S., Zeltiq CoolSculpting is the undisputed leader in non-surgical fat removal.
The technology is backed by an impressive number of scientific publications proving both its effectiveness and safety.
Zeltiq CoolSculpting is the only fat-freezing technology to obtain the highly coveted FDA approval, which is very difficult to achieve.
In Europe, regulations are less rigid, and the enormous success of Zeltiq CoolSculpting has given rise to an abundance of counterfeit devices.
All these devices claim to offer cryolipolysis, yet they do not match the effectiveness or safety of Zeltiq CoolSculpting.

Freeze Detect
So what sets CoolSculpting apart?
“The deciding factor is the Freeze Detect system, which is a Zeltiq patent,” says Dr. Alexander Aslani, Director of Cirumed Clinic Marbella and Head of the Department of Plastic, Aesthetic and Reconstructive Surgery of Hospital Quiron, Malaga.
“Freeze Detect is unique to Zeltiq and enables us to impart enormous freezing energies to subcutaneous fat deposits without damaging the skin. Counterfeit devices do not have Freeze Detect technology.
Most of them are simply not effective because they cannot achieve such high freezing energies,” says Dr. Aslani. “Be aware that there are also some copies (usually from China, but from Spain and Germany as well) which are potentially dangerous and can cause skin burns.”

How can I make sure I am being treated with Zeltiq CoolSculpting technology?
“This is relatively simple,” says Dr.Aslani. “Zeltiq maintains a web list of all its registered centres in Europe, which you can consult on www.zeltiq.com
If a centre is not listed here, it is not a Zeltiq original; it’s as simple as that. In case of doubt, let them show you their machine. If it is not an original Zeltiq, I would not tempt fate.”

Only four centers in Spain
Within Spain, customer orientation is even easier.
There are only four clinical centers with five machines in Spain which offer original Zeltiq CoolSculpting technology. These machines are located in Madrid, Barcelona, Valencia and Marbella.
Cirumed Marbella is the only clinic in Spain with two machines.
“This was necessary for us to meet the enormous demand,” says Dr. Aslani. “In the U.S., there are many centres with numerous machines to meet patient demands. In Miami, there is one practice that has nine machines, yet they still have waiting lists.
I think we will see a similar development here.
